For the next two days, steady rain and a cold wind forbade any outdoor activities. However, to Elizabeth, it brought more joy than a ray of bright sunshine, when she received a letter from Jane.

She opened it, anxious, eager, hopeful, fearful. She quickly skipped the first rows, in search of a name that suddenly appeared before her eyes.

‘Lizzy, I thought I would faint when I saw Mr. Bingley in the doorframe. I had long ceased any hope of him calling, or even seeing him again soon. I still do not know how he discovered the address, as I have strong reason to believe it was not from his sisters.

I could hardly speak, so Aunt Madeleine invited him in. We were both lost and I cannot remember what he said first, but he stayed over an hour, and he said he will call again. Lizzy dearest, he said he was not aware of my presence in Town! That Mr. Darcy had just informed him and he came the very next day. Have you spoken to Mr. Darcy anything on this subject? You must have, otherwise, why would he have sent such a letter all of the sudden.

Dear Lizzy, Mr. Bingley is just his usual self. I saw nothing altered in him, except he is a bit thinner and paler.

Aunt Madeleine was enchanted by his manners. She said she will invite him to dinner when he calls again. I do not know how much sense this letter makes to you, as I am writing it after he just left half an hour ago.

Oh, Lizzy, I cannot believe this is happening! I have been in town for four months and he found out just now. Was fate playing with me? I will leave you now—I miss you so terribly.

I am glad you enjoy your time in Kent and that you have found such a lovely companion in Miss de Bourgh.
